Please introduce yourself and tell us about your early life.
Having begun my journey as a software engineer, I worked as a developer for a year before getting into Secret Haircare full-time. While I did enjoy my time at the corporate world, I did feel there was a piece missing. The missing piece was indeed Secret Haircare and focusing on the element of marketing, customer relations and internal communications were an area my efforts were keen. It has been 5 years ever since, and my early life as a developer to now an entrepreneur has been challenging but definitely enriching.
Tell us about your entrepreneurial journey and inspiration.
My initial journey began while working for Secret Haircare part-time while working as a developer. I did see the potential and demand for the products crafted and that was when I decided to join my partner and co-founder, Ashith Sashidhar at Secret Haircare full-time. While the haircare space was quite crowded with brands coming into the market, we were quite confident with the products we were offering. The products curated included family recipes, authentic and natural ingredients that are not only beneficial but extremely real with no harsh preservatives added. We saw the need for real and organic products that actually help those struggling with hair fall and dandruff to name a few considering the harsh water or pollution. Consumers have started becoming more conscious and more aware and that’s where we stepped in to cater to such demand.
What is the brand about
Secret Haircare was established in the year 2018. The purpose behind the brand was to craft natural and authentic products consisting of simple yet effective ingredients that aid to hair related concerns such as hair fall, dry scalp, dandruff for example.
How did they choose the brand name?
We initially started searching for a name among the ingredients and Ashith’s mother who is the mastermind behind the ingredients told us it was a Secret when asked. That is when we thought, Secret would be a relatable name and hence came along Secret Haircare.
The Unique selling proposition for Secret Haircare would be its handmade, natural, and hand-picked ingredients freshly made in batches to cater to our consumers.
How do you find inspiration?
The inspiration came in when we heard our friends talk about how they are looking for a solution to help drastic hair fall. While there are numerous products in the market, we felt there weren’t products that were natural and real. Many included harsh chemicals that damage cuticles, and hence Secret Haircare was our way of crafting products that aid to such problems while being organic, cruelty-free and natural.
How do you want your brand to be remembered?
We would love for Secret Haircare to be known as a brand that has dedicated its efforts toward haircare while remaining simple and extremely effective with its ingredients.
As a women entrepreneur, what is the biggest obstacle you faced, and how did you deal with it?
I have been fortunate enough not to come across any major obstacles as such. However, I am the first in my family to venture into business, without a background in business. That was indeed a challenge at the beginning, however, with time it’s been a wonderful learning experience.
